Demanding the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi after the explosive revelations in suspended IPS officer Vanzara's resignation letter, the Gujarat Congress gave a bandh call on Friday.
"Incidents during the last couple of days have revealed the criminal and conspiratorial face of this BJP government. This murderous and corrupt BJP government should resign immediately and with that demand we appeal to the people to observe a Gujarat-wide bandh on Friday," Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia said here today.
Referring to the resignation letter tendered by IPS officer D G Vanzara, Modhwadia claimed that, "Vanzara's ten page letter has not only opened the eyes of the whole country but it has also made the people of Gujarat shiver".
In his resignation letter, Vanzara claimed that he and his men had merely implemented the Gujarat government's conscious policy of "zero tolerance" towards terrorism and also alleged that, "instead of being in Gandhinagar, the place of this government should either be in Taloja central prison at Navi Mumbai or in Sabarmati Central Prison at Ahmedabad".
At a press briefing jointly addressed by Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela and former state Congress chief Siddharth Patel, there were references to the revelations of a CD which had resulted from a sting operation conducted on BJP leaders Prakash Javdekar and Bhupendra Yadav.
"In that CD Sohrabuddin Shaikh's associate Azam Khan
is seen to have revealed that the Gujarat government gave safe passage to Mufti Sufiyan, considered the main conspirator in the murder of former Gujarat Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya," Modhwadia said.
"Scores of common people, as well as many BJP leaders and state officers suffered because of the politics of killings played by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah who saved themselves by sending BJP leaders and police officers behind bars," he alleged.
