Rejecting the Samajwadi Party’s allegation of a “conspiracy” to trap party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in the CBI net for not supporting FDI in retail sector and the Bill on SC/ST quota in promotions, the Congress today said that “people with national stature” will not be afraid of the investigating agency.
“On FDI, was it due to blackmail that he took that position? They took the position on their own. There is no question of any influence rightly or wrongly... There were many instances when the CBI was complimented profusely by these people. I don’t think people with national stature will be afraid of CBI,” said AICC spokesman P C Chacko.
On Sunday, SP spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhray had said the CBI was being used to pressure Mulayam into supporting FDI in multi-brand retail and reservation in promotions in government jobs for SCs and STs.
