Kolkata: A fire which broke out 40 hours ago, is still raging in the basement after it swept the floor of a seven-storey commercial building on busy Strand Road.
Twenty-five fire tenders, including two from Army fire services, were engaged to bring the blaze under control.
There was no casualty, firemen said.
The building houses a plastic godown, several shops and a bank. Some offices were damaged by the fire, sources said.
State Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen and city's Police Commissioner Goutam Mohan Chakraborty visited the building this afternoon.
Sen said the fire was expected to be doused tomorrow, adding that no one was trapped inside the ill-fated building.
The building was unlikely to collapse, he said.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage was being ascertained, sources said.
