CME programme on rheumatology held at PGI
There was a session on ANCA-associated Vasculitides in which Prof Wolfgang L Gross, emeritus Prof from University of Lübeck spoke on his personal experience about these life-threatening disorders. His centre has the largest single center experience of diagnosis and management of these disorders.
Vasculitides are a heterogeneous group of disorders causing inflammatory destruction of the blood vessels. Early recognition and early and correct management is important to prevent damage to various organs of the body like lungs, kidneys, heart, brain, skin etc. He emphasized the need for correct diagnosis to manage these potentially life threatening conditions. Prof Paul Bacon, emeritus professor of Rheumatology from University of Birmingham talked about assessment of activity and damage of rheumatic diseases.
Prof Gross also interacted with the doctors from the surrounding areas and also with patients suffering from these diseases.
Dr Aman Sharma, the Organising secretary of the CME delivered a talk on life threatening challenging cases and showed how even a common disease like tuberculosis can present as a close mimic of these rare vasculitic disorders.
Dr Aman Sharma also showed other life/ organ threatening manifestations of relapsing polychondritis and sarcoidosis. Prof AN Malaviya, Ex Chief of Clinical Immunology at AIIMS talked about approach to a patient with joint pain and Prof RN Mishra, Dean SGPGI talked about Interpretation
