Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the Health and Family Welfare department to make concerted efforts to make Punjab a cancer-free state by providing free treatment to the patients.

While interacting with Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal and other health department officials after they submitted survey report ‘Statewide door-to-door campaign Cancer awareness and symptom-based early detection’ to the chief minister on Tuesday evening, Badal reiterated the commitment of the SAD-BJP government to eradicate cancer from the state.

The chief minister said that the second phase of the programme would be solely aimed at curbing the spread of the disease. Expressing concern over the death of 34,430 people in the state due to cancer in the last five year, Badal said that sustainable efforts should be made to avert any such mishap in future.

He also directed the department officials to provide proper treatment to 24,659 people, who had been reportedly suffering from the dreaded disease, besides ensuring suitable diagnostic facilities to 87,403 people among whom the symptoms of cancer had been detected.
