Class XII physics examination: Helpline flooded after physics exam rumours

It has been 10 days since the Class XII physics examination was held, but students and parents continue to flood the state board helpline demanding a fresh examination. Not only that, students have been venting their ire at the state education board counsellors through abusive calls because of a ‘tough’ physics paper.

The calls to Mumbai division helpline began after hundreds of students received SMS texts stating the state board was conducting a poll of students wanting a fresh exam for the physics paper held on February 25. With scores of students making numerous calls back-to-back to ‘vote’ for or against, the two lines at the Mumbai division office have been flooded with calls since February 25.

According to the officials, the calls came even from Ratnagiri, Nagpur and Kolhapur.

Balasaheb Hyalij a counsellor at the helpline said, “We have received over 1,500 calls. We are getting 10-15 calls every day. The sad part is that those facing genuine problems could not reach the helpline. Some students abused us, called us good for nothing and blamed us for the tough paper.”

Many HSC (science) students had complained that the physics paper was tough and lengthy. Since then, there were rumours that the board would conduct a fresh exam. However the state board officials are firm that no such thing will happen. The board officials alleged that the rumours were spread by coaching classes.
