Civic body meet likely to be stormy over unused funds

In a written reply to a query raised by Shiv Sena corporator Prithviraj Sutar, the civic administration has admitted that of the Rs 522.42 crore sanctioned for the project by the Union government, only Rs 165.17 crore has been spent so far.

As part of the project, the civic body had planned to set up 6,000 apartments in Hadapsar, 2,576 in Warje, 1,792 in Kondhwa, 4,480 in Lohegaon and 1,680 in Kothrud. The project also included construction of 10,265 ottas for rehabilitation of street vendors.

However, the PMC has so far only spent Rs 47.90 crore in Hadapsar and Rs 46.84 crore in Warje while no money has been spent for projects proposed in Kondhwa, Lohegaon and Kothrud. The projects could not be started owing to civic administration’s failure to acquire land.

Of the Rs 27 crore, the administration has spent Rs 9.29 crore for rehabilitation of street vendors.
