City student’s doodle gets Google honour
City student Vidhi Binwal’s doodle is one of the 13 shortlisted finalists out of over 2 lakh entries received by Google for its Doodle 4 Google (D4G) India 2012 contest.
Of the 13, Vidhi, a Class III student of Orchid School, Baner, is the only one from Pune whose doodle has been selected for the logo contest. The theme this year was Unity in Diversity and the Google team was looking for doodles which, according to students, are uniquely different and diverse, yet unite India.
Explaining the concept, Nikhil Rungta, Country Marketing Head, Google India, said, “The competition aims to facilitate the creative talent of young India and provide a national platform for children to showcase their talent. Many entries this year were beyond tier 1 cities, which means that Internet is now on its way to reach the next billion.”
Vidhi’s parents are delighted. Her father Vishal Binwal, who works with TCS, said Vidhi recently joined a formal drawing class. “Initially, for D4G, she had made four doodles. She herself selected the one which had a touch of warli because she is fond of warli art,” said Binwal.
2012 is the fourth year of the competition. Over the years, we’ve seen increased participation and this year we’ve had the highest number of participants, compared to other years, said Rungta.
Talking about the criteria of selection, Rungta said all the entries were evaluated on the basis of artistic merit, creativity, concept and supporting statement. Participants were grouped into three categories:
