City anchor: Abused by traffic offender, cop threatens to quit

A traffic police sub-inspector (PSI) has threatened to quit the force after he was allegedly abused and assaulted by a scriptwriter stopped as part of a drive against tinted car windows in Malad West on Tuesday afternoon.

PSI Kanaiyalal Shinde, however, decided not to lodge a police complaint after he was admonished by a senior.

The scriptwriter of Goregaon, meanwhile, claimed he reacted after Shinde abused a woman friend and damaged his car by banging on it.

A DCP (traffic) will probe the allegations.

A large crowd had gathered near the Inorbit Mall traffic signal where the drive was under way.

Shinde, attached to the Malad traffic division, said he was cracking down on illegal parking around the mall when a white Fiat sped through the barricade.

Noticing that the car had tinted glasses and an Uttar Pradesh registration (UP 44 P 9516), traffic constable Rajendra Galve gestured the driver to halt.

When the driver did not heed and crossed the signal, Shinde intercepted the car with Gavle. As he knocked on its glass, the scriptwriter at the steering wheel allegedly got out.

“He began abusing us. When we asked him to stop, he climbed on the car and began shouting and jumping, shattering a side window. He was threatening us. A woman accompanying him too abused us,” said Shinde.

The PSI claimed when he demanded licence, the scriptwriter allegedly threatened him and caught him by his collar.
