Caring two hoots about the advisory issued by the Centre for all the government departments to practise austerity measures, the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) seems to believe in just the opposite.
For one, it has decided to replace the Ambassador car in UT guesthouse in New Delhi with a swanky, luxurious Honda City car worth almost Rs 10 lakh for the UT officials who “frequently” visit the guesthouse in New Delhi for attending official meetings.
Sources say that the top brass of the UT Administration was not too pleased while travelling in the old car which is otherwise still a preference for many ministers and bureaucrats elsewhere in the country.
The move was given approval at a meeting of the board of directors of CITCO on Wednesday.
When contacted, CITCO MD D K Tiwari said, “The car was getting old and rickety, and we had been planning to replace it for long. Since the guesthouse is maintained and managed by CITCO employees, therefore, we only will buy the new car.”
Other than this, the board also decided to extend the discount facility of 40% to its former directors on a par with retired Group A category officers of CITCO.
To improve sales and for the overall strategic planning of CITCO, the board said that a strategic consultant might be appointed at the earliest.
To provide more facilities in the Multipurpose Industrial Community Centre, the proposal of construction of two rooms, as per the approval of Chief Architect, UT, Chandigarh, was allowed by the board. The board also approved revision and payment of conveyance allowance to special categories of employees as per a recent circular by the UT Administration.
The board also accorded its approval to the annual accounts for the financial year 2011-12 and authorised MD CITCO, CA D K Singla, CGM, GM (CA) & CS and GM (FA) to sign the balance sheet and profit and loss account on behalf of the board.
The board also accorded its approval for the payment of bonus @ 8.33 of the wages subject to a maximum of Rs 3,500 per employee to the eligible employees under the payment
