The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Wednesday signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the state government to set up a centre of excellence (CoE) on water and to co-sponsor 50 research fellowships for students from Gujarat annually for four years.

The CoE will be anchored by CII-Triveni Water Institute which is the industry partner in this project. “The proposed CoE would provide necessary framework for addressing water-related issues by adopting a holistic approach towards water management involving all stakehholders (municipality, industry, domestic and agriculture),” said Anjan Das, Executive Director, Technology, CII.

Under the other MoU, the CII will co-sponsor 50 scholars every year in a bid to foster research. “We plan to award around Rs 5 lakh to each scholar for research. And in four years’ time, there will be 200 research scholars emerging in different sectors from Gujarat,” he added.
