As the chase got intense the Chepauk started to fill up gradually by afternoon but still it was far from being called jam-packed. One could still figure out the colour pattern of the seats in the stands even during the thrilling final session. As word spread around Chennai about the thrilling chase at Chepauk, the gate money increased but surprisingly there was still space for many more. The late-comers called up friends to inform that tickets and even they were not disappointed when they turned up.

Check with the locals if the Chennai too is becoming another venue where Test cricket fans were gradually decreasing and they reluctantly shake their heads. They do confess that the 'house full' Tests was a thing of the past but still watching the game from the stands wasn't yet passé.

Proud about the long history of interesting games witnessed at Chepauk, they say unlike outsiders, the cricket-crazy Chennaites are quite used to final day thrills and spills. A glimpse of the recent history of the game in this region shows that Chennai has witnessed three very exciting final days. One went India's way, the other they lost and the third ended in a tie.

Chennai was best venue for Test, but I thought that weather could play spoil sport as it happened a few years ago!

Sachins brilliant feat

Much is being made by all and sundry about Sachins failed effort against Pakistan in 1999, when, inspite of his amazing innings of 136, it is being blamed on him that he fell short of taking India to Victory against Pakistan. How can people be so insensitive and cruel to Sachins monumental effort of 136 glorious runs , scored with a nagging back injury? How come no one is talking about the completely inefficient tailenders , nincompoops like Javagal Srinath, Venkatesh Prasad etc, who could not even score 12 runa between the 4-5 of them, to carry India to Victory? Cricket is a team game, and one man cant ensure a win however brilliantly he plays. It takes 11 men to either win or lose a game. That day against Pakistan , Sachin was a real hero, he tried his level best to carry the team to victory, but his stupid jerks of team mates, who had no pride in either themselves or sachins great knock or India, let the team down badly by miserably failing to score a pittance of 12 runs required.
