The government-appointed Ashok Chawla Committee is likely to suggest a negotiated market price for farmers in lieu of their land acquired for the industry.

The model which involves not only the one-time payment for land but also long-term annuity for farmers, besides providing jobs, is referred to as the Haryana model.

Such a model has been adopted by the Haryana government successfully even when farmers' agitation against land acquisition has been witnessed in several other parts of the country.

"Chawla Committee has actually adopted our suggestion for the e-auction (of natural resources) and Haryana model for land allocation," newly-appointed Ficci Secretary General Rajiv Kumar said today.

Ficci along with CII is on the Chawla Committee which is going into allocation of natural resources for industrial and other development purposes.

The government is planning to come out with an amendment to the Land Acquisition Act in the wake of incidents like Bhatta-Parsaul land-row in Greater Noida early this month which took a violent turn.
