Chaos in peak hour Delhi traffic as IAF officer beats wife on street

An argument between a couple that turned ugly, a peacemaker who lost his cool and entered into a fistfight with the husband, and passersby who stopped to resolve the issue, but instead added fuel to it by taking sides — this was the chain of events on Ferozeshah Road in Delhi that led to a traffic jam during peak evening hours on Tuesday - main protagonists, an IAF man, an Indian Airlines pilot and of course the wife.

Police said as cars waited, with drivers honking, the fight continued and the onlookers refused to budge. Officers said the traffic was held up for at least half an hour around 3.45 pm.

According to police, an Indian Air Force officer was travelling on Ferozeshah Road with his wife. They got into an argument and to resolve the issue the the officer stopped the car by the side of the road. But the argument turned ugly, police claimed.

“He (Air Force officer) started slapping and beating his wife. A man who was passing by saw him and intervened to stop the assault,” a senior police officer told Newsline.

The peacemaker, it was later revealed, was a pilot with Indian Airlines.

The intervention angered the Air Force officer more. He got off his car and started to abuse the pilot, police said. “The pilot told the officer not to use abusive words. When the officer did not stop, the pilot reacted and it took shape of a major fight,” police said.
