High drama prevailed at an over-speeding naka at Purv Marg Sunday when a resident of Sector 28 was challaned for over-speeding and family members of the man alleged that police inspectors and Sub-Inspectors assaulted them. The police personnel on naka duty said that the person was falsely implicating them as he was challaned for over-speeding and misbehaviour.
As per the police officials the incident took place at 1.40 pm Sunday when the car was stopped at a naka on Purv Marg by the UT traffic police personnel. Inspector Malkiat Singh, the in-charge of the naka said: “Initially when the two misbehaved with the police personnel, we called PCR about the incident. The PCR vehicle came and we gave them a challan for misbehaving with a policeman on duty. Then they came back and started alleging that we assaulted them.”
However, family members of the challaned man had a different story: “We were stopped at the naka and one of the constables asked us to give some money or get a challan made. Later when we argued with them about the money, the inspector on duty got us out of the car and assaulted us, kicked us and slapped us.”
The traffic marshal on duty, Gurnam Singh (70) said: “The family came back after 30 minutes and started abusing the policemen. He even abused me.”
