The BJP Thursday charged the government of “inaction” against cases of black money and said it even “suspected” the intentions of the government given the fact that a collaborative effort of journalists has been able to unearth secret transactions while the government remained inactive to pursue leads offered to it.

“Today’s revelations of black money stashed away by people from across the country clearly indicate the government’s intentions are suspect while journalists can find about it,” BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.

He attacked the government for its alleged inaction against pursuing the leads offered to it by foreign governments. “There has been no follow up to the information received from other countries on this issue. We condemn this government’s inaction and will raise this issue afresh,” he said.

The BJP demanded follow-up on the revelations and urged the Centre to bring back black money stashed abroad.

The BJP’s reaction came in the backdrop of a report “Global media investigation finds 612 Indians among thousands with firms in tax havens” published in The Indian Express Thursday that revealed huge money transfers and hinted at tax evasion through a collaborative investigation carried out by The Indian Express and ICIJ.
