The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a preliminary inquiry into the AgustaWestand VVIP chopper deal and has named former Air chief S P Tyagi and his cousins.

The CBI in its preliminary enquiry has named 11 persons and four companies.

The Indian Express broke this story a couple of weeks ago, mentioning for the first time that Italian investigators have sniffed a Tyagi connection in the Rs 3,600-crore deal to supply 12 choppers for VVIPs travel in India.

The Indian Express has over the last year exposed a nexus between officials of Finmeccanica – the Italian firm that supplied the helicopters – middlemen and Indians.
