A day after the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) directed Karnataka to release 12 TMC water to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, urging him to keep on hold this “burdensome” decision.

“The direction of the CMC to ensure the flow of 12 TMC in December is extremely burdensome on the state of Karnataka,” Shettar wrote to Prime Minister, who head the Cauvery River Authority, stressing that his state was short of water for the month of December.

Shettar was learnt to have suggested to the Prime Minister that “the recommendations of the CMC should be rejected by you at the earliest to save the standing crops in Karnataka”.
