SummaryFour persons, all residents of Ghaziabad, were killed when their car crashed into a wrecked truck on the Yamuna Expressway near Tappal in Uttar Pradesh early on Monday morning.

Four persons, all residents of Ghaziabad, were killed when their car crashed into a wrecked truck on the Yamuna Expressway near Tappal in Uttar Pradesh early on Monday morning. The four, all of whom are employees at the Ghaziabad post office, have been identified as H S Tomar (42), Harvinder Singh (34), Arvind Kumar Sharma (34) and Sunil Kumar Sirohi (47).

A senior officer said the four, and Narendra Singh Sengar who was injured in the accident, were returning from Lucknow after supervising postal service exams.

The officer said the incident took place between 2.30 am and 3 am on Monday, near Tappal. An officer said, “The truck overturned after it met with an accident with a tractor earlier. We suspect that the driver of the Fiat Punto lost control and rammed the car into the truck. It flipped over many times and came to a halt 200 m away. The injured man managed to contact the police and all five were rushed to a nearby hospital, but four of them were declared dead on arrival.”

The officers said it was not clear if the car was being driven at a speed above the prescribed limit.

“We are looking at video footage. However, there are no cameras where the accident took place. We are looking at why the truck was not removed from the expressway. A case has been registered against unnamed persons, and once we determine the cause of the accident, we will make arrests if needed. The four bodies were sent for post-mortem examination,” the senior officer said.
