Low-cost airline pioneer Captain G R Gopinath has become the latest high-profile urbanite to sign up with AAP ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, which he later sold to Kingfisher Airlines, had contested the 2009 parliament polls as an Independent from Bangalore South but lost deposit. He also contested the 1994 Assembly polls on a BJP ticket from the Gandsi seat.

Declaring that he had become AAP member following his association with Arvind Kejriwal and Anna Hazare during the 2012 anti-corruption movement, he said it was too early to say whether he will contest the Lok Sabha polls. “AAP is transforming the hope generated by the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare into action,” he said. Gopinath’s entry into the AAP comes close on the heels of former Infosys CFO V Balakrishnan joining the party.
