Siemens in India is strengthening initiatives for skill up-gradation of the industrial workforce in India. It signed two separate MoUs—one with the ministry of industries and mines, government of Gujarat, and the other with Steel Authority of India Ltd. Additionally, Siemens has partnered with industrial bodies such as Automation Industry Association (AIA), Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association (IMTMA) and CII to impart technical education. Speaking on the initiatives, Bhaskar Mandal, Sector Cluster Lead, Industry Sector, Siemens South Asia, said, “Closing the gap in skill development is a vital bridge to ensure that we gather momentum in reviving the manufacturing growth of the country. Our strength lies in innovations, the intelligent use of new technologies and our century old partnership with the Indian industry. We are extremely proud of initiatives like this that help to strengthen the long-term manufacturing competency of our nation.”
ACCA tax chief urges simplicity in tax regime
The head of taxation at ACCA (the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants), the global accountancy body, has said the Indian government’s new vision for tax reform must be kept simple to avoid the plethora of loopholes and ineffective measures that other countries currently face. Speaking at the “Cross Border Transactions: Challenges of Foreign Investment and International Taxation Conference” at Jindal Global Business School in Delhi, Chas Roy-Chowdhury said while tackling tax evasion was essential in all countries, India’s tax authorities had an opportunity to get it right. “We have seen a drive globally for a move towards a global corporate tax regime aimed at stamping out transfer pricing and income shifting. While the sentiment is good, the reality is flawed,” he said.
