Cabinet okays grant to industrialists, farmers

The state Cabinet on Tuesday decided to financially help industrial units to undertake branding of their products. They will be given a grant which will be one per cent of total marketing cost, subject to a maximum of Rs 50,000.

Units which get the intellectual property rights or trademarks registered for their product or range of products will be give a grant of 75 per cent of the registration fee up to a maximum of Rs 2 lakh. The consultancy fee will also be reimbursed. The Cabinet also gave its nod for increasing the state’s share in subsidy for small and marginal farmers in drip and sprinkler irrigation systems to 40 per cent. With the Centre offering 50 per cent subsidy, the total subsidy for small and marginal farmers now stands at 90 percent. Earlier, the state share was limited to only 10 per cent. For others, the state share in subsidy has been increased from 10 per cent to 35 per cent and the Centre gives another 40 per cent.

It authorised the government to sign a memorandum of co-operation (MoC) with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which works through individuals, NGOs in the field of maternal and child health, family welfare, mother and child nutrition, vaccination for polio, besides technical and managerial support in agriculture sector.

Further, the Cabinet cleared the way for direct appointment of teachers in primary and upper primary schools by approving the amendment in the Teachers Service Rules 1981. Now, the BEd degree holders who have
