New vehicle buyers in India are increasingly choosing dealers based on reputation and operational effectiveness, says JD Power 2014 India Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) study.

The study, released on Thursday, found that the reputation of the dealer — as a purchasing reason — has increased 11% during the past five years. Owners who selected their dealer based on his reputation, availability of the exact model and hassle-free negotiation pay an average of 4% more for their vehicle than those who chose a dealer for other reasons, such as location or getting the best deal.

Toyota ranked highest with a score of 866, performing well across all factors. Maruti ranked second with a score of 860. Honda, Hyundai and Mahindra were tied at the third place with 859 each.
