Padma Bhushan awardee S P Oswal, chairman of Ludhiana-based Vardhaman Group of Companies, has always had a special place in his heart for teaching.
From a business tycoon, he turns into a simple teacher as he enters the classroom of Sri Aurobindo College of Commerce and Management (SACCM), which was started as his dream project in 2004.
Addressing the students, he does not talk about books and theories but about values and life experiences.
“My aim, my dream is to impart world-class education to students in commerce with which SACCM was started. No doubt I joined Vardhman after my masters due to family compulsions, but my love for teaching will never die,” says Oswal, who is an M.Com gold medallist from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
His sessions are not limited to interactions with students but also with the faculty of his college.
It is this initiative to promote experiential learning for which the faculty is sent on regular visits to Vardhman factories to garner maximum knowledge for students.
“I have always told the
faculty to not stick to textbooks but go for knowledge from
various sources,” Oswal tells The Indian Express.
He recently allowed 13 students to attend the annual general meeting of Vardhaman Acrylics and Vardhaman Special Steels on August 31.
“I told him that you are
still a teacher at heart and he laughed. He makes it a point to visit the college every
month or two and interact with students and faculty members,” says R L Behl, principal of the college.
