Hold meetings with Nambardars: CM to revenue dept

Chandigarh:Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday asked the Revenue Department to issue detailed guidelines instructing the deputy commissioners to hold quarterly meetings with Nambardars to solicit their support and participation in the policies and programmes of the state government. The CM assured the Nambardars that they would be given due representation in the district grievances committees.

Badal reviews work at Army institute

Chandigarh:Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal reviewed the progress of the ongoing construction work at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute in Mohali on Sunday. He asked the executing agency, GMADA, to complete the pending work by March 31, 2013, before the start of the next academic session.

Firms oppose FDI in retail

Chandigarh:Despite the Centre passing FDI in retail in both houses of Parliament, the Kheti Virasat Mission, Punjab, objected to the Punjab government’s move to allow GM food in the state. The organisation along with Aawaaz organised a workshop on food safety ‘Monsanto- A Threat to Health, Environment and Human Rights’ at Punjab University on Sunday. Umender Dutt, Executive Director of Kheti Virasat Mission, said, “We will not allow any government to play with our health system. The agitation will soon spread across Punjab”.
