Fitness centre owner commits suicide

Bangalore: A 30-year-old son of a retired head constable who ran a fitness centre in the city allegedly committed suicide at his house in BHEL Layout, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, on Thursday. Vijay, son of Jagannatha Rao, owned the Fitness World gymnasium at Sirsi Circle in Chamarajpet. The police said Jagannatha returned home Thursday noon from a wedding to find Vijay dead. The entire family had gone to the wedding Wednesday but Vijay and his brother Bharath had returned in the night. The police said Vijay was to get married on January 18. He did not accompany his brother to open the gym Thursday morning, preferring to stay home after complaining of a stomach ache. Jagannatha told the police Vijay was not opposed to his marriage, nor did he have financial problems.

Hotel employee stabbed to death

Bangalore: A 37-year-old hotel employee was stabbed to death by a gang at the Swastik junction in Seshadripuram on Wednesday night. Ramesh Nayak, an employee of Shanthi Sagar Hotel who hailed from Sadashivaghatta village near Honnavar, stepped out of the hotel for a walk with a friend at around 11.45 pm. Local resident Manju and his friends accused Nayak and his friend of staring at them, resulting in a clash. The gang was allegedly in an inebriated state and one of its members took out a knife and stabbed Ramesh in his left thigh. Ramesh fell unconscious and bled to death.

Business-funding contest by CRCE

BANGALORE: The start-up incubation centre at Chenraj Roychand Centre for Entrepreneurship (CRCE) of the JGI Group will conduct a business-funding competition on December 14 and 15 at CMS Business School, JP Nagar. Anybody with a viable business idea — students, professionals or entrepreneurs — can get funded through the competition. “The event aspires to identify an entrepreneur whose idea holds the potential to be the next best thing,” CRCE said in a release.

Body of 7-year-old found floating in lake

Bangalore: The body of a seven-year-old boy was found floating in the HB Halli lake near Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Thursday evening. After being informed by members of the public, the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to a mortuary. “We are yet to ascertain the identity. He was around seven years of age. We have registered an unnatural death case,” a police officer said.
