Chandigarh:Taking note of the attitude of the drivers towards halting the buses for school and college students, Punjab Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar has directed the drivers to ensure that the students boarded the buses, so that they could reach their institutions well in time.

Hooda exhorts youth Cong to work unitedly

Chandigarh:Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday exhorted the office bearers of the Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress to work unitedly to strengthen the party’s base in the state. Addressing the “Dayitva Grahan Samaroh” in Panchkula, Hooda said that the government was laying special emphasis on the development of youths and was observing 2012 as the “Year of Youth”.

Bodies pass resolution against death penalty

Amritsar:In a resolution passed here on Sunday, rights bodies, Khalra Mission Organisation, Human Rights Law Network, Lawyers for Human Rights International, World Sikh Organisation, Sikhs for Human Rights, Punjab Human Rights Organisation and Peoples Union for Civil Liberties opposed the death penalty in principle saying that it did not have any deterrent effect on others and an eye for an eye approach gave rise to further violence.

Malwa set to be textile hub

Chandigarh:Malwa region of Punjab is set to become the new textile hub of south-east Asia. Anil Joshi, Industry and Commerce Minister, Punjab, said under the new textile policy of Punjab, a textile park with textile processing units to convert cotton to garment would be set up with minimum fixed capital of Rs 250 crore in the area.
