The German luxury car maker, BMW, has planned something unique for the growing Indian car market - introducing the BMW i8 petrol-electric hybrid supercar at the forthcoming Indian Auto Expo, 2014, which is commencing from first week of February.
BMW i8 is a carbon bodied supercar and said to be the most expensive vehicle from the auto major in the Indian sub-continent. It is anticipated to be priced at somewhere around Rs. 1.5 crore. Sources say that BMW will start delivering the i8 by late 2014 or early 2015.
Earlier, a prototype of this sensational car grabbed the attention of the enthusiasts in Hollywood movie 'Mission Impossible 4' with Tom Cruise at the wheel.
With the all new BMW i8 hybrid car, the company claims to deliver a sportscar performance combined with the efficiency of a compact car.
This BMW i8 supercar will come powered by a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that will churn out a maximum power of 357 bhp and peak torque of 570Nm. The car attains its extreme performance levels due to the light-weight aluminium that it sports and at the same time carbon-fibre enables it to cross the speed range of 0 Ė 100 kmph in a mere 4.5 seconds.
The exteriors and the interiors have been exquisitely crafted to match BMWs futuristic car approach. The fascia of this sports car is neatly defined with the modest BMW grille that gets the companyís badge right at the centre on the hood. The hood itself is a bit extended and flattened and also gets a triangular like crease in the centre for that rounded impossible-to-achieve curved look.
What makes it more contemporary is a set of optional laser headlamps that provide maximum visibility to the driver. The headlamps have inbuilt daytime running lights and indicators that look entirely different from rest of the BMW cars.
The sides of the BMW i8 supercar leave a long lasting impression with the twin stylish doors that open
