New Delhi, March 19: The BJP on Sunday lost no time in suspending veteran party leader Madanlal Khurana from the primary membership of the party after he made no bones about his intentions in siding with expelled firebrand leader Uma Bharti.
The former Rajasthan governor and Delhi chief minister, who recently started a tirade against the party for having sidelined him, had earlier in the day voiced support to Ms Bharti’s ‘Janadesh’ rally at the risk of losing his party membership.
Senior BJP leader MA Naqvi said party president Rajnath Singh took the decision to suspend Mr Khurana following his statements over the last few days. However, the move is seen widely as a warning to the party rank and file ahead of Ms Bharti’s rally. She has also invited former Union minister and senior BJP leader Sanghapriya Gautam to the rally.
Mr Khurana was briefly expelled from the BJP last year for his outbursts against the then party chief LK Advani, but the move was revoked on former prime minister AB Vajpayee’s intervention and Mr Khurana’s apology. However, Mr Khurana was given no major party post after it and his name was not in the list of Rajya Sabha nominees announced recently.
Mr Khurana is expected to join Ms Bharti’s proposed new party.
