Demanding a comprehensive inquiry and punishment of those involved in the irregularities in the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland deal for 12 VVIP helicopters, BJP President Rajnath Singh said today that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's proposal for a debate was a non-starter.

"Debate is not a solution to corruption," he said.

"We are all ashamed. The entire country is ashamed following reports of corruption in the deal," he said.

Claiming his party has zero tolerance towards graft, Singh said, "BJP has never compromised with corruption and will never do so."

Referring to the seizure of Rs 1.10 crore, arms and ammunition from the vehicle of Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen yesterday, who is also a candidate of BJP's ally Nagaland People's Front, Singh said, "Whoever is charged and prima facie case established will not be given any responsibility in the next DAN government."

Singh was talking to reporters outside Dimapur airport after returning from his election campaign in Tizit and Aboi constituencies under Mon district.
