BJP cries for Sheila resignation, women’s panel blame police
Delhi unit BJP president Vijender Gupta on Monday held Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Commissioner of Police Neeraj Kumar responsible for the incident. “Goondaraj (hooliganism) has become rampant in the Capital. All promises of the government have failed,” he said.
The party accused the Delhi government of mishandling law and order. BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said such incidents take place regularly, but they are neither taken seriously by the Union Home Ministry nor by police. “I believe Delhi’s law and order and security issues are handled carelessly by the government,” he said.
The Delhi government, on its part, has asked police to bring the culprits to book without delay. Chief Minister Dikshit said action would be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.
Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia said the incident “is a matter of shame and that crime against women in the Capital is increasing every day”.
“Those who commit such crimes are wandering freely. Punishment for such crimes must be severe enough to act as deterrent. We will support the girl and her family in all possible ways,” she said.
