New Delhi: Welcoming the parting of ways between BJD and BJP in Orissa, the CPI(M) said it was confident that more non-Congress, non-BJP parties would join the Left to forge a third alternative for the upcoming polls.

"Two days ago, (BJP leader) L K Advani had pooh-poohed the idea of a third front and said India had a stable bi-polar polity. India cannot have a two-party system however much the BJP and Congress wish," CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters.

Asserting that the country required alternative policies and not those pursued by the BJP and Congress, he said the Left parties were confident that "more and more non-Congress, non-BJP forces will come with us."

Releasing the first list of 59 party candidates after a two-day Central Committee meeting of the party, Karat termed the BJD-BJP breakup in Orissa as a "good development".

After the Kandhamal attacks on Christian minorities, the CPI(M) leaders had met the leaders of BJD and warned that it would be ‘untenable’ for them to continue alliance with the saffron party, knowing BJD's secular background. "I am very happy to say that they have finally broken away."

Hoping that the Orissa Governor would take the "right step", he said despite BJP's demand for dismissal of the Naveen Patnaik government, "the only course for the Governor is to call a session of the legislative assembly and test majority on the floor."

Ofcourse this break-up has once for all ended the dreams of Advani and Company to occupy the top slot. But, the Left Front tying up with the BJD out of turn only smells opportunism more than anything else when the fact is that they criticised the BJD as a communal force not so long ago.

ibjp-bjd allaince broken is a good sign to indians, because with the allaince with bjd, bjp did lots of violence against minority christians like they did in other states and mr.patnaik cannot do anything against bjp because he was hanging in front of them, now he understood he will loose in the election if he continue with bjp and he broke the allainace, but Orissa people should be careful that if u vote again to BJD he will joint NDA sure like before and he can sit as CM or CENTRAL MINISTER SO BEWARE OF NAVEEEN AND BJP.THANKS.

THe oppertunistic Communist leadership which is sinking every day is desperately trying to hotch up an alliance and 3rd Front to be in the national reckoning and the developement at orissa has come as a bolt from the blue.But it is good for the BJP to break the alliance with Biju Patnaik who is loosing the ground in Orissa due to his inability to stem the riots and after amth of khandanmal.BJP should take this as a God given oppertunity to fight the election on its own with a clear cut strategy and good governance they provide in Gujarat and MP .As far as Communist are concerned they are a spend force and loosing their credibility after the nuclear deal issue and subsequent withdrawl from UPA .Through out the history they have prooved to be an oppertunist and back stabbers.if parties like TDP or AIADMK or Deve gowda ailligns with the Communists and try to form a fractured govt in Centre then it will be the death knell of Indian democracy .But the Indian voters are very intelligent .
