Known for being passionate about fitness, Bipasha Basu has been one of the few female actors in the Hindi film industry, who takes her gym routine seriously. After launching two volumes in the Love Yourself series (Break Free and Fit & Fabulous You), Basu recently launched a high octane workout DVD called Unleash. While the earlier volumes had a dance based workout and overall body sculpting moves respectively, Unleash is an advance training routine that includes plyometric and cardiovascular moves. If done properly, plyometrics (a form of functional training) can help build more power and speed, while strengthening the bones and improving muscle co-ordination.
The 30-minute workout aims at improving lung, heart and circulatory functions along with burning major calories and assisting in weight loss. The DVD opens with a short introduction to the Love Yourself series, where Basu tells us why we need to respect and love our body. Next, she talks about the Unleash routine, where she discusses why plyometrics needs a lot of stamina (as it is a highly specialised form of strength training).
She also tells us how this routine can help increase the metabolic rate, which will help the body burn unnecessary fat faster; while adding that the individual needs to start with the basics and slowly increase their pace to build up the potential of their body with every passing day.
The main routine begins with a warm-up set, including neck rotations, ankle rotations, pull overs among others. It then moves on to the next set, where the level of challenge increases as you do squat knees to chest, squat and balance among others. The DVD also includes fitness trainer Deanne Pandey’s tips, where talks about focusing on the perfect landing (after a jump), breathing techniques, choice of footwear, clothing among others. She adds that the wrong choice may result in severe injuries. It also has a section dedicated to behind-the-scenes, where one can see how the routine was choreographed.
There are celebrity endorsements by actors like Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan among others; where they praise Basu and also share their own fitness mantra.
