Bhel CMD Rao voices anguish as orders dry up

State-owned engineering company Bharat Heavy Electricals (Bhel) is facing the heat of the current slowdown with a shrinking order book, especially from private sector infrastructure firms. Bhel CMD BP Rao said on Wednesday that new orders have virtually stopped as companies were themselves facing problems to mobilise funds in the current tight liquidity conditions.
“I am not seeing any tenders from the private sector. Whatever orders are coming are from central or state public sector companies. This year, there are hardly any bulk deal coming,” Rao said at the India Energy Forum conference on Wednesday.
Earlier, addressing the conference ministry of power joint secretary ICP Kesari said a shortfall in domestic fuel production was hurting over 20,000 MW of installed capacity. About 8,000 MW of gas-based capacity was stuck due to scarcity of the fuel and another 12,000 MW of coal-based capacity is awaiting linkage.
