Kolkata, Jun 5: Bengal Shrachi Housing Development Ltd (BSHDL), a joint venture between the West Bengal Housing Board and Shrachi group, is planning to set up a theatre complex in north Kolkata.
According to Rahul Todi, managing director of BSHDL, the theatre, like films, would become popular if supported by necessary infrastructure. "It is difficult to say the cost of the proposed complex, but I am optimistic," Todi said. He wants to involve the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the project. Noted film director Goutam Ghose has requested Todi to think over it.
According to him, a lot of people do not watch movies owing to poor condition of cinema halls. Similarly, theatre has lost its charishma due to pathetic condition of auditoriums. "I hope, the complex can solve the problem".
Bengal Shrachi is organising the 6th edition of Greenwood Spirit Theatre Festival, a six-day event that will take place from June 8 to 11 and on June 17 & 18.
Veteran theatre personality Shobha Sen will be honoured with 'Utpal Dutta Smarak Samman', the lifetime achievement award, during the fest, while Rangroop, a theatre group, will get the Tripti Mitra Smriti Puraskar for its famous production Mukhos Nritya. Sen will recieve Rs 51,000 and while Rangroop will get Rs 25,000 as prize money.
