Bank manager dies after being hit by local train

Cops probing if he committed suicide.

The branch manager of a nationalised bank died on tracks after being hit by a local train at Mira Road station Wednesday. Police said Vilas Dattaram Narsade (57), a resident of Thane (W), was a manager at UCO Bank’s Ramdev Park branch in Mira Road. Though police have filed an accidental death report, they are probing whether Narsade committed suicide.

Narsade’s wife Aruna has told the police that the death was an accident. However, inspector R Kshirsagar of Vasai Railway police said, “Narsade’s friends said the bank management had told him that he would not get his post-retirement payments if the companies whose loans he cleared did not repay.”

“We are investigating the case and are recording the statments of the bank management,” Kshirsagar added.

Police said Narsade reported for work at 11am. After about 10 minutes, he told his colleagues he was going to the bank’s Churchgate head office.

R Seetharaman, zonal manager, UCO Bank said Narsade was waiting for a train on platform 2 and spotted another train arriving at platform 4, he rushed to catch it when the accident occurred. He suffered severe head injuries. His friend Laxman Singh Mehta, who was at the spot, informed his wife.

Narsade was taken to Mira Bhayandar Municipal Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. The Narsades have two daughters, one of whom studies in London and the other stays with them.
