Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi today said reservation in jobs for SC/STs should be done away with as it is against the interests of general public and in violation of the rights of the deserving.

"I was the only MP to raise voice against reservations," claimed Gandhi during a function at Hindu College here, adding that there should be no compromise on the level of efficiency particularly in crucial jobs like in the health sector.

Commenting on the functioning of current crop of MPs, Gandhi said most of them neglected their constituencies whereas in advanced countries, representatives of the people made every effort to be in constant touch with the electorate.

The Pilibhit MP said giving maximum time to his constituency was one of his top priorities in order to address the grievances of the people.

On the recent violation of ceasefire along the LoC in J&K in which an Indian soldier was beheaded and another shot dead by Pakistan troops, Gandhi said the issue would have found greater prominence in any other country.

Talking about the youth, Gandhi said that they should come forward to contribute to society since they were not only the future but also the present of the country.

I fully support Varun in his demand for abolishing reservation for jobs. This vote-bank reservation has now resulted in children from the so-called upper caste not getting any job. All plum jobs are cornered by SC/ST/minority and various other catogeries and merit has no value at all. Even the great Ambedkar wanted reservation only for 10 years from 1947.

Wrong concept . . .behind right agenda

Another uneducated and uninformed from "the family", although braver and more sensible than his chaprasi brother. The reasong provided by him is nonsense. He should have come up with the actual necessity points. As the target communities for whom these reservations were deviced are already in poer and as their 2nd or 3rd generations are taking the advantage (in most cases even 5th generation); these shall be done away. These reservations are providing the incentive to lead a better live by subsidizing an opportunity, but it is not used so; these guys are still proucing tonns of children in irresponsible way and proving themselves eligible again and again for the reservations. Why govt. has failed to identify the correct targets and their expected behaviour? There are many not in reserved category but still poor and more eligible than these NCP types are. NCP has proved how quickly the reserved people can get corrpted. They do not know how to use productively a subsidised opportunity.
