Bal Thackeray, ailing Shiv Sena supremo, 'extremely critical'
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's health turned "very critical" late on Wednesday night. As the news spread, his supporters gathered outside his residence, 'Matoshree', in Bandra.
His nephew Raj Thackeray, along with his family, arrived at Matoshree at around 9.30 pm -- his second visit for the day. Top Sena leaders including Manohar Joshi, Sanjay Raut, Ramdas Kadam and Eknath Shinde also reached the residence. Well past midnight, actor Amitabh Bachchan also arrived at the spot.
A team of doctors from Lilavati hospital who have been constantly monitoring Thackeray's health for the past two weeks rushed to Matoshree in the evening.
Around midnight, senior Sena leader Ramdas Kadam tried to pacify the over 2,000 workers gathered outside Matoshree, saying that the doctors were trying their best. With emotions running high, party workers shouted slogans like "Balasaheb jai ho". Security was stepped up in the area.
Thackeray has been ailing for the last two weeks. He was last hospitalised in July this year following complaints of stomach pain.
