Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday unveiled a Rs 5500-crore- plan to provide basic civic amenities of water supply, sewerage, street lighting and storm water in all the towns and cities of the state to improve the quality of life in the urban sector.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of ultra modern bus stand here, Badal said the SAD-BJP combine government was committed to provide good infrastructure in the state because any state or nation could not prosper and grow for the want of requisite infrastructure.

He lashed out at the Congress, which ruled at the Centre and states for more than five decades and remained “completely insens tive towards” the development in rural and urban areas despite the fact that more than 60 years had elapsed since India became a free and sovereign nation.

He asked “let us introspect ourselves, who is at the fault? Had Congress been serious and concerned for the development of nation as a whole , the things would not have gone from bad to worst as on today”. Taking cognisance of the Congress’ apathetic attitude towards common man, Badal said “our government had vowed to transform entire Punjab so that no part of the state remained under developed and the masses do not feel the need to approach the government for their genuine demands rather it was the bound duty of the government to redress their grievances which was an integral part of good governance and clean administration”.

“If any political party adopts this pro-people attitude, then it need not to go in the court of people to justify their actions and achievements during its tenure at the time of elections, rather people will come forward to support and vote them voluntarily for the sake of development”,Badal said.

Speaking on the occasion, state transport minister Master Mohan Lal said with the completion of this ultra-modern air conditioned bus stand at a cost of Rs 7 crore over an area of 4.5 acres of land, the long pending demand of the local residents had been fulfilled.

He said the Punjab roadways would bear the entire expenditure for this project. The construction work of Rajpura, Bathinda, Rampura Phul and Anandpur Sahib bus stands was under execution Meanwhile, Parkash Singh Badal has asked media to shun sensationalism and give more attention to economic and social problems besides other issues of national interest....
