Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner has been found guilty of punching a Greek lorry driver in the face in a road rage incident in his home town of Salzburg.

His 38-year-old Greek victim claimed Baumgartner, 43, had pushed ahead of a queue of four cars only to get wedged on a roundabout.

In the ensuing row Baumgartner hit him in the face in September 2010.

Baumgartner, the first man to break the sound barrier in a freefall, was ordered to pay a 1,200 pounds fine after losing an appeal yesterday, The Sun reports.

According to the report, Baumgartner, who had claimed self-defence, was not in court as he was on tour talking about his record-breaking 24-mile balloon jump last month.

The report quoted a court spokeswoman said, as saying that ‘he apologised and was convicted in absentia with the consent of his attorney.’
