Assam workers threatened in Kerala

Migrant workers from Assam, working in a hollow brick manufacturing unit at Manjeri in Kerala's Malappuram district, were allegedly threatened by some unidentified persons to leave Kerala by today, following which police have stepped by vigil.

The workers were threatened on August 16 midnight and a complaint in this regard was filed by the unit owner before Manjeri police on August 18, police said.

A 12-member gang had threatened them asking them to leave the state before August 20 failing which they would be harmed.

Police have registered a case and investigation is on.

Police said the local community in the area have promised all help to the 14 workers, 11 of whom are from the majority community.
