Panaji: Veteran actress Asha Parekh prefers yesteryear's heartthrob Shammi Kapoor over Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan when it comes to dancing.

Parekh said that Kapoor, who was his first co-star in 1959 'Dil Deke Dekho', continues to be her favourite actor till date.

When asked whom she considers a better dancer among Kapoor and Shahrukh, Parekh said, "Shammi Kapoor had lot of music and rhythm in his body. Shahrukh must be finding it difficult because he must have learnt it."

Parekh, who is being felicitated for completing 50 years in the film industry at the on going 40th International Film Festival of India, said that Kapoor, also known as India's answer to Rock 'n' Roll star Elvis Presley, is a born dancer.

The veteran actress who dominated the Hindi filmdom between 1959 and 1973 said that she is not out of the industry and still in touch with her colleagues including Wahida Rehman, Saira Bano, Sadhana and Helen.

"We often meet not that I am invisible in the film industry circle," she said.

While she was all praise for the directors of yesteryears, Parekh also expressed admiration for current generation of filmmakers including Suraj Barjatya, Farhan Akhtar, Priyadarshan and others. "They are very talented directors," she said.

Why only dance, Shammi Kapoor surpasses Sharukh in every area....flamboyance, charisma, looks...... and Shammi ji is spirited....... a real star.... the other being Dev Anand

There is no comparison.. Shammi kapoor was a good break-dance sort of dancer and nothing else while SRK is a good actor, star, businessman, & also good dancer..

Since Asha Parekh commented on Shammi's dancing. Let me add some more : Shammi Kapoor was born before his time and there is still a vacuum in Bollywood for his style of acting and persona.If Shammi was forty today, no Bollywood star would have touched him. "I repeat nobody". An actor like Shammi Kapoor and the charisma he had in his hey days will never be seen in India again. I was blessed to be a teenager in Shammi's Yahoo days.

Whe a family dog barks at strangers and neighbours, most would accept that to be normal, but when the same dog starts barking at family members, then its obvious that that there is something wrong with the dog. There is a saying which goes, its difficult to teach an old dog new tricks, let the sleeping dogs lay or lie. You can make up your mind, because the news media have a habit of making a storm in a tea cup for the sake of selling news, thats their business.

Asha Parekh was a superstar in her hey days. She has given several hits such as Teesri Manzil, Caravan, Mere Sanam, Kati Patang, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hain, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Heera, Aan Milo Sajna, etc. up to Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. She was not careful with her fitness and had to fade out by the mid-70's as she had become too overweight by then. But she will always be remembered as a sincere actress whose movies had great scripts and lilting music. I believe that she does a lot of charity work. She should write her autobiography to document her experiences of Bollywood of the 1960's.
