Hyderabad, Jan 6: : The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up a `pay revision commission' (PRC) which will benefit over 12 lakh state government employees, according to Mr S Chandramohan Reddy, the state's information minister.

Briefing the cabinet decision to the media, the minister said that the new commission will be set up shortly and its final report will be implemented. "There will be no interim report," he added. The last PRC was appointed in 1988 and its recommendations were implemented in 1999.

Further, the state cabinet has decided to provide 5 per cent interest rebate on cooperative credit loans taken by the farmers. As of now, the farmers are paying interest at the 12 per cent. "We have appointed a committee to rationalise the interest rates at 9 per cent and hopefully this will be implemented from April 1, 2004," he added.

Though the government has not estimated the cost to the exchequer, according to 2001 records, when the similar interest rebat was offered, the government incurred an expenditure of Rs 83 crore. "This year it may increase a little more," he said.

The state cabinet has decided to outsource the maintenance of `fire stations' with an expenditure of Rs 3.13 crore. It will set up 21 new fire stations and their maintenance will be handed over to the private parties as per the proposal, he said.

Also, it has decided to set up 5 regional forensic centers at Warangal, Guntur, Tirupati, Kurnool and Nizamabad.
