Chennai: Telecom Minister A Raja said any deviation by lower rung officers from Government's policy decision on spectrum allocation would be dealt with.
"I have made it clear, any deviation at the lower level, after the policy decision was taken by the Government, to show favouritism to a specific company by a lower officer, will be dealt with," he told reporters in Chennai on sidelines of a function.
"I was very categorical from the beginning and I want to reiterate it now," he said.
Raja faces allegations by Opposition that there are irregularities in allocation of 2G spectrum. Last week, CBI searched offices of Department of Telecom and many new private telecom players, who were given spectrum last year in connection with charges made against the telecom minister.
Raja said spectrum was alloted as per the recommendations made by industry regulator Trai and after consultation with the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The Prime Minister on Sunday in Thailand said Opposition allegations are not correct. "In democracy charges are traded but that does not mean what Opposition is saying is right," Singh told reporters at Cha-Am-Hua Hin, where he is attending the twin summits of Asean and Eas Asia.

Why we elect such people, who even after getting involved in such huge scams go scot free. There are so many people to protect them due to political reasons. These people buy votes and people have got used to getting money for votes. Thanks to TN now this technique is being tried in other parts of India too. Should we hang our heads in shame or continue with this and keep on electing these rogues. After all whose money is this any ways. It is ours. It is high time we wake up and chuck these low levels out.

While Mr. Raja's position in the 2-G allocation scam appears to be indefensible, the stand taken by the UPA Prime Minister for protecting Raja in the sole purpose of ensuring DMKs support to his Govt at the centre is equally reprehensible. For Prime Minister to prove his commitment to probity of his Minister, he must remove Raja first and then have an independent probe conducted into the charges against the Minister. Any amount of exhortations by PM or by Raja will be futile. Attempt to find a scapegoat at "lower level" smacks of a nefarious design of the Minister.

the Irony is, the PM is NOT dependant on DMK support at the centre. It is the DMK which is dependant on Cong I at TN State. Now, how were they able to blackmail Cong I to get the same Telecom ministry?!!

This was Rs 2,450 crore more than what its promoters paid to acquire the licences in February 2008. How could lower level people have shown any favoritism without pressure from higher levels of the administration? If the Honorable minister is really interested in getting the truth out, he should resign from his position so that the investigation can progress. Lal Bahadur Shastri resigned his Ministerial position immediately after the Ariyalur train accident owning moral responsibility. Of course, for a person trained in DMK barracks, the word "Morality" is totally unheard of and is an anathema. Unless, Mr. Manmohan Singh kicks him out of the ministerial position, truth will never come out. The only answer that the public will need from Raja is the Swiss or Off shore bank accounts where the commissions for him and other beneficiaries are deposited.
