Anna Hazare Thursday arrived in Orissa to urge the people to participate in his movement against corruption, but checked into the VIP suite of government-run State Guest House in Bhubaneswar.

Home department officials said the organisers handling Hazare’s visit had written to the government on November 26 to get him a room in State Guest House and follow the protocol necessary for him.

The officials said Hazare would have to pay Rs 1,000 per day for the VIP suite.

Hazare’s decision to stay in the Guest House was criticised by activists. Sudhir Patnaik said Hazare has discredited the activists who are actually fighting for the rights of people. “Why should he demand special privilege? He could have stayed in somebody’s private residence. This is laughable,” he said.
