Andrew Garfield has announced that he will be returning as the superhero in the ‘Spider-Man’ sequel.

Film’s director Marc Webb said on Friday, that he too has been signed up for the blockbuster’s sequel.

The duo’s film, released just five years after Sam Raimi concluded his trilogy with Tobey Maguire, earned more than 750 million dollars at the global box office.

“We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline,” the Daily Mail quoted Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, as saying.

“And we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker.

“We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide,” he said.

The new movie that begins shooting in early 2013, has already been given a release date of May 2, 2014.

Emma Stone, who played Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy in the movie is in talks and is expected to return to the franchise.
