New Delhi, Sept 19: The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is withdrawing approval for full-time and part-time post-graduate management courses (PGDM) of Amity Business School, Noida, from the academic year 2005-06. AICTE’s advisor, administration, K Madhu Murthy said: “The 240-300 students affected by this decision will be accomodated in nearby institutions.”
Mr Murthy said, “We found on inspection of the premises in Noida that the norms were being flouted. We found that Amity Business School ran courses in collaboration with foreign universities without AICTE approval in premises meant for the PGDM courses. We sent repeated warnings. The fees charged were also exhorbitant. Also, the admission process was not transparent.”
Refuting this, Atul Chauhan, chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, said, “We have been running the PGDM courses for 10 years. Our course is one of the best. There are some courses that we run that have nothing to do with the PGDM course where the student goes abroad after completing one year here. This is done at the international wing of the business school. There is a tie-up with a university in the US, so no approval is required here.” He denied that Amity is charging exhorbitant fees.
But AICTE has another story. Said Mr Murthy, “Amity is operating several other courses in the premises meant for the PGDM courses and with the same faculty. So the students are suffering. Even the PGDM infrastructure does not comply with AICTE norms.”
