SummaryThough 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' dominated box office, Alia Bhatt's 2 States continues to churn out money.

With Indian Premier League continuing its dominance and summer vacations adding more woes, the domestic box office saw a lull period last weekend. Although there were two Hindi releases - Purani Jeans and Kya Dilli Kya Lahore—it was the much awaited, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that managed to walk away with all the glory.

The extended weekend helped the film become the highest opening weekend collection for a Hollywood film. According to the official figures shared by Sony Pictures India, the first four day collection of the film stands at Rs 41.7 crore. Hollywood scores over Bollywood

The Andrew Garfield-Emma Stone starrer attracted a lot of viewers, especially in multiplexes, where the film was screened in the 3D format. According to a spokesperson from Cinemax-PVR, the average weekend occupancy of the film stood at 40-45 per cent. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2 got a tremendous opening, with a large number of children and family audience coming to the theatres. Everyone was looking forward to the entertaining sequel and the special effects has wowed the viewers. We are expecting the average weekday occupancy to be around 20-25 per cent,” mentioned the spokesperson.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes that since the two Hindi films weren’t significant enough, it cleared the path for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 to dominate the boxoffice.

He further added that the Hindi dubbed version of the film has failed to grab eyeballs and the word-of-mouth-publicity for the same is also very low. Eros International's retro youth film Purani Jeans failed to get decent footfalls at both the multiplexes and single screen cinemas.

The scene was repeated with Vijayraaz's Kya Dilli Kya Lahore. Manoj Desai of G7 cinemas confessed that it will be very difficult for the two films to pick up, as there are six films releasing next week and the IPL is building interest with its return in India. "Although a few morning and afternoon shows saw occupancy of around 20 per cent, it further fell during the evening and night shows because of the IPL matches.

Besides, with the extended weekend, several people went out of the city with their families. As a result, both Purani Jeans and Kya Dilli...have performed badly,” mentioned Desai. At Cinemax - PVR chain

of multiplexes, both the Hindi releases saw an average occupancy of 12-15 per cent. While Purani Jeans has managed to collect 32 lakhs, Kya Dilli...managed to collect just about 22 lakhs.
