New Delhi: Economist Amartya Sen, business tycoon L N Mittal and Pepsico CEO Indra Nooyi are among the members of a high-level panel headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh constituted to advise the Government to draw upon experience of the best Indian minds abroad for a two-way engagement.

Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vyalar Ravi informed the Lok Sabha that the Global Advisory Council will develop an "inclusive agenda" for engagement between the country and the best Indian brains living abroad.

Other panelists of the 23-member council includes External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, City group CEO Vikram Pandit, NRI entrepreneur Karan Bilimoria, economist Jagdish Bhagwati, educationists Sam Pitroda.

The Minister said the council will also consider ways and means for accessing the skills and knowledge of Indian diaspora for meeting the country's development goals and facilitating investments by overseas Indians into the country.

"The Council will serve as a platform for the Prime Minister to draw upon the experience, knowledge and wisdom of the best Indian minds wherever they may be based," Ravi, who is also member of the council said.

@K.Vijayakumar - You are justified in feeling nervous about bringing in CEOs from developed countries which the PM blamed as being responsible for mismanagement that caused the global meltdown. However, none of the names mentioned in the article have been remotely connected to the financial institutions and government authorities such as SEC or FSA. Another article in IE today has the title "Govt approaches Ratan Tata for heading AI".

It was only the other day that the Prime Minister said that mismanagement by the developed countries had brought about the global economic meltdown which is hurting India. Now he wants top executives of top US business corporations to help him push India's economic growth along. Does one see here some nervousness about the country's economic situation at the highest political level?

after reading the book THE ARGUMENTATIVE INDIAN the immediate thought came to my mind was " this guy must have been paid handsomely by the congress,communists, christians and the churches". the congress' s role has been prooved. we are now waiting to find out the role of other three.
