Atlas Laboratories and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ALPL), a division of renowned bicycle manufacturers Atlas, on Monday launched a range of medicinal products in Jammu and Kashmir.
"We have launched the products in Jammu and Kashmir as part of our expansion plans and will be soon launching our products in other states of the country in a phase-wise manner," ALPL Executive Director Ashwin Kapur told reporters in Srinagar.
Kapur said in the next phase, the company will be expanding its reach to the western states of the country followed by southern and eastern parts.
"We have products for all sections of the society – be it men, women or children. Our products are at least 25 per cent cheaper than our competitors," he said.
He said the company, which has invested Rs 100 crore in its pharma division, will be entering the markets in Africa, European Union and United States after it gets the requisite certification from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
"We are hopeful of getting the WHO certification in two to three months. In the first stage, we will export our products to Russia, CIS countries, Africa and Middle East. In the second stage, we will target European Union and the United States," he added.
ALPL, which has set the target of being the leading pharma company in the country in 2016, has also entered in contract manufacturing for its Haridwar plant with some leading companies, including Cipla.
"Our products are already being exported as we have contract manufacturing with companies like Cipla, Biochem, VXL and Marion Biotech," he said.
Kapur said Atlas was looking at diversification of its businesses with focus on telecom, automobile and pharmaceutical industries.
"We chose the pharma industry because of the growth, demand and rising prices. Our aim was to provide cheap but quality medicines to the people in the country," he added.
Kapur said the company would be adding more than a dozen new products to its existing range of 23 products in 10 groups in near future.
He said the products have been designed after careful market research looking at quality and pricing as essential factors.
Over the next 18 months, ALPL has set a target of having 1,000 dealers feeding products to one lakh retail outlets all over the country.
"In north India, we intend appointing 250 dealers to market our products through 30,000 retail outlets," he said.
